Shareaholic is now available for Chrome

The Shareaholic extension is now available for...Image by svartling via Flickr

Extensions Gain More Steam As Shareaholic Is Chrome-Ready http://ow.ly/166wG5

"The extension is fast, and thankfully, does not seem to slow down Chrome at all. Obviously, extension support is a big key to Chrome competing with Firefox, the browser known for its extensions. And this simple extension support also gives Chrome a huge leg up over the top dog of the browsers, Microsoft's Internet Explorer" http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/12/03/shareaholic-chrome/

- Yes extensions are good. If they don't slow down the browser or makes them huge memory hogs... That's why I stopped using Firefox.
Lets hope that Google has some other kind of technique that don't make Chrome bloated by adding extensions to it.

Convert Firefox into a text-only browser

I stumbled upon a great Firefox add-in from Chris Pedericks called the Web Developer Toolbar (download). As the name implies, the free toolbar is intended to help Web designers test their pages, but it can also be used to show only the text of Web pages, which often makes them easier to read--and to print out.

Firefox Hack: Close Tab Buttons

Firefox Hack: Close Tab Buttons - Expert Help by PC Magazine: "Firefox brought tabbed browsing to the masses, then improved matters by adding a Close button to each tab. Some people love this, but others fumble, closing tabs when they meant only to switch to them. If you're a fumbler, customize Firefox to switch to a single Close button at the end of the tab bar."

Opera mini 4 beta (Dimension) released

From the Opera mini team:

It's ready. Opera Mini 4 Beta, "Dimension" is available for you to try. Thanks for waiting patiently as we work hard to give you something truly special. We're proud to say Dimension sets a new standard for Web browsing on mobile phones. There are some noticeable improvements that we'll describe in detail below.

But first, here's what you really want: download Dimension directly from your WAP browser to your phone from here

Note that Opera Mini 4 Beta will NOT overwrite existing Opera Mini installations you may have.

What you will you find in Dimension:

- PC-style browsing direct to your mobile phone.
Opera Mini has brought you the Web for your phone since 2006, but now with Dimension we give you a full overview of the page in one easy view - just like you expect from your PC Web browser.

- Start and stay at the right place
When you load a page, Dimension will automatically suggest a place to begin reading. When it's time to dive into the page, Dimension zooms in and cleanly focuses on the content you want.

- Dynamic scrolling
Opera Mini dynamically changes the size of text and images to make it convenient to read without a lot of unnecessary scrolling.

- Fast and cheap browsing
As always, Opera Mini delivers the pages you want, quickly. In doing so, Opera Mini makes your data bill cheaper, too.

- Surf the Web in style
The Web. Period. You can get any site, any where, at any time. It's your Web, to go.

Google buys part of the Maxthon Web Browser

TechCrunch reports that Google has bought a small part of my old favorite web browser - Maxthon. Read more about it at TechCrunch.
Multiple sources are confirming that the Chinese/Israeli
startup
behind the Maxthon Browser has sold a minority stake to
Google. The total investment size is rumored to be around $1 million. We are
also hearing that this investment is part of a “much larger strategic deal”
between the two companies.

A look at Deepfish

A heck of a lot of people have been mentioning Deepfish - the new lightweight internet browser. Unfortunately you can't grab this as the maximum amount of downloads has been exceeded already. There's a good Flash animation showing it in action, however we've managed to get hold of this preview software to show it in action.

We've taken a deeper look into Deepfish and tested out some of the new zooming, panning and "cue map" functions below. These extras help to bring a more life-like feel to your mobile internet browsing. Read on to see this new browser in action.

Make Google Services more Opera-Friendly

This is too bad. I hope Google or Opera fix this. But in the meanwhile you can use this excellent Javascript. It fixes problems with many Google services in Opera web browser. The script is updated constantly to fix more services. Read more att Google Operating System how to use this excellent Javascript.

Google Operating System: Make Google Services Opera-Friendly

Although Opera is a modern browser that respects web standards, many developers don't have time to test their sites in Opera and prefer to block it. There are a number of Google services that return "incompatible browser" errors or deliver a trimmed-down version in Opera, even though the site would load just fine without the hardcoded browser checks (also known as browser sniffing).
